SANTE researchers have developed fluoride-free toothpastes that clinical studies have shown to protect against tooth decay, plaque development and gum disease. These toothpastes combine botanical ingredients well established in oral care applications, such as myrrh, sage and green tea extracts, together with relatively high doses of xylitol.

Xylitol is a natural sugar alcohol contained in many kinds of vegetables and fruits, and is also produced in the human body. Numerous international dental studies have demonstrated xylitol's ability to inhibit infection causing bacteria, such as mutans streptococcus, a well-studied bacterium that concentrates in plaque. Xylitol causes these bacteria to lose the ability to adhere to cells, without which they cannot multiply and cause infection.

Clinically proven
The SANTE sponsored study was conducted by the prestigious Poliklinik for Dental Health Research (Zahnerhaltungskunde) of the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany. The study confirmed the effectiveness of the fluoride-free SANTE dental med toothpastes in inhibiting the development and growth of bacteria associated with tooth decay and gum disease.
